Seniors Build Blessing Box

Seniors Build Blessing Box

Senior students in GlenOak High School’s Construction Trades program recently turned classroom skills into meaningful community impact by building a Blessing Box to help individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

Partnering with Blessing Boxes, a local nonprofit organization that provides accessible food pantries throughout the community, the students designed and constructed a fully functional outdoor food pantry. These Blessing Boxes allow community members to discreetly pick up essential food staples whenever they are in need.

The project was made possible through the generous donation of all building materials from Lowe’s in Alliance, Ohio. With the supplies provided, students were able to take the project from concept to completion, applying the hands-on skills they have developed throughout the school year.

Students built walls and roof rafters, installed siding, constructed and hung doors, added door hardware, and shingled the roof. The experience gave them the opportunity to practice real-world construction techniques while working collaboratively as a team.

In addition to strengthening their technical abilities, the project reinforced the importance of service and community involvement. By contributing their time and talents, the seniors created a lasting resource that will directly benefit local residents.

Through projects like this, GlenOak’sC Career Tech programs continue to prepare students not only for future careers in the trades, but also for lives of leadership and service.
