Scholastic Award Winners

The Scholastic Art and Writing competition is a national student art competition that acknowledges and celebrates exceptional Visual Art and Writing students. This year, GlenOak high school students in the Visual Arts and Commercial Photography departments accumulated 56 total awards, including 3 Gold Portfolios, 8 Gold Keys, 8 Silver Keys and numerous Honorable Mentions!

The Northeast Central Ohio region hosts an Exhibition of Gold and Silver Key winners and offers a special awards ceremony where selected students are honored with scholarships, awards, and prizes. This ceremony occurred on January 25th at the KSU- Stark Conference Center. The following GlenOak students were selected for special recognition at the awards ceremony:

IB Visual Art student, Halle Speelman, received a FREE Massillon Museum membership for her work titled “Bridge” which was a Gold Key. 

Commercial Photography student, Gracie Rosette, received the Novotny Scholarship offered by Kent State University to incoming students who plan to major in Visual Art! This $1500 scholarship was only 1 of 3 awarded to students at this ceremony!

IB Visual Art student, Isabella Nagy, received the Meyer’s School of Art Scholarship offered by the University of Akron to an incoming student who plans to major in Visual Art. This $1000 scholarship was also only 1 of 3 offered to students at this ceremony!

9th grade Enriched Art student, Lon Wright, was awarded the American Vision Nominee award for his painting titled, “We Hold These Truths”! There are 5 American Vision awards nominated in each region which represent the top 5 works in the Regional Exhibition. The 5 American Vision nominees’ work will later be adjudicated by the Scholastics New York affiliate, who will select the #1 Best in Show for our region. Should Lon Wright’s work be selected as #1 for our region, he will be invited to attend the National Scholastic Exhibition in New York City!
