New Leadership Approved

The Plain Local Schools Board of Education has approved the hiring of two key leaders for the 2026-2027 school year, naming Derek Nottingham as Treasurer and Kyle Sasala as Athletic Director.

Nottingham brings nearly two decades of experience in public school finance, most recently serving as Treasurer for the Louisville City School District since 2015. His career also includes treasurer roles with Marlington Local School District and Brown Local School District, along with earlier experience at the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office.

Mr. Nottingham shared, “I am honored to be selected to serve as Plain Local’s next Treasurer and would like to thank the Board of Education for this opportunity.” he continued, “I am familiar with both the high standards and great reputation that Plain Local has in Stark County, and I am excited to join the District’s ongoing efforts to create the best opportunities for all students while operating in a financially responsible way.”

Board President Jennifer Fitzsimmons added, “We are excited to welcome Derek Nottingham to Plain Local Schools. His experience and deep understanding of school finance make him the right leader to guide our district’s financial future.”

As Treasurer, Nottingham will oversee financial operations for Plain Local Schools, working closely with district leadership and the Board of Education to support responsible planning and long-term stability.

The Board also approved the hiring of Kyle Sasala as the district’s next Athletic Director. Sasala currently serves as Athletic Director at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, where he oversees more than 100 coaches and a comprehensive program focused on student-athlete growth and community engagement.

Sasala brings a strong background in athletic leadership, having also served as Athletic Director at Bishop Fenwick High School and in multiple athletic administration roles across Ohio. His experience includes building student leadership programs, expanding community partnerships, and creating opportunities for students to gain real-world experience through athletics.

“I’m incredibly honored and thrilled to join the GlenOak community. I look forward to building strong relationships with our coaches, student-athletes, and families while continuing a tradition of excellence both on and off the field,” shared Salasa. 

GlenOak Principal Brett Niarchos added, “Kyle’s experience and strong leadership skills, combined with the energy and vision he brings, make him a great fit for GlenOak. His focus on student opportunities and program growth aligns with what we value, and I look forward to seeing GlenOak Athletics continue to excel under his leadership.”

Sasala holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sport Administration from the University of Cincinnati and has earned the Certified Athletic Administrator designation through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He was also recognized with the Bruce Brown Award of Excellence in 2024 for his leadership in high school athletics.

As Treasurer and Athletic Director, Nottingham and Sasala will play key roles in supporting the district’s continued commitment to strong operations and meaningful student experiences.
