YMCA Summer Camp at GlenOak
YMCA Summer Camp at GlenOak: Plain Local Schools is proud to partner with the YMCA of Central Stark County which will provide our students the opportunity to attend Summer Day Camp closer to home. The camp will take place from May 31 - August 9 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Before and aftercare will be available from 6:30 am - 9:00 am and 4:00 - 6:00 pm. The summer camp is designed for students entering grades 1 through 8 and will take place at GlenOak High School. The YMCA programming is focused on getting kids disconnected from technology and reconnected with laughter, fun, and being outdoors. A special feature of this camp allows Plain Local students the opportunity to attend Plain Local summer academic, enrichment, or sports programming in addition to participating in the YMCA summer camp all in the same day on our GOHS community campus. Campers will be offered breakfast and lunch at no additional charge. Registration is limited.

S’More Summer Learning
S’More Summer Learning: S’More Summer Learning is a summer learning camp during which students will participate in engaging academic instruction in reading and math as well as camp themed outdoor fun. This is an excellent opportunity to keep the learning going and prepare for the upcoming school year. *Space is limited. Last day to register is April 30, 2023. Jumpstart to Kindergarten
Jumpstart to Kindergarten Summer Learning Camp: This summer learning program is designed for students entering kindergarten in Plain Local in the fall. Daily activities will include early literacy and math learning, social skills, and imaginative play. Students will be attending Plain Township’s Safety City at Warstler Elementary School on June 20, 21, and 22. *Space is limited. Last day to register is April 30, 2023.

Safety City
Safety City: Plain Local Schools, along with Plain Township Fire & Rescue and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office are proud to present Safety City. Safety City is an educational program designed to introduce your pre-kindergarten child to safety issues. It is designed to educate young children in a non-threatening manner, while offering information that is easy for children to understand and use.

Babysitter Training Program- FULL
Babysitter Training Program: The Babysitter’s Training program is designed to educate young individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training helps participants develop the leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe, help children behave, and learn about basic child care. Students may complete the training at no cost. A $5.00 fee is required for certification. (Please note this camp is FULL, to be added to the waitlist please email curriculum@plainlocal.org)

Coding & Gaming Camp- FULL
Coding & Gaming Camp: Coding and Gaming camp combines computer coding skills with Esports Gaming. Block-based coding utilizes a drag-and-drop learning environment, where students use coding instruction “blocks” to construct animated stories and games. This camp provides both entry-level and intermediate-level activities, where kids can gain a foundation in computational thinking and Esports strategies in a team-based approach. Summer Side-Hustle Camp with TomTod: Summer Side-Hustle Camp invites passionate and imaginative middle schoolers to use their skills to create micro-businesses for their neighbors and community! Each day, campers get to explore alongside local business owners, marketing professionals, and entrepreneurs through behind-the-scenes tours and interviews! Then campers collaborate to create and prototype their own business plan. If you love thinking outside of the box, imagining new ideas, and helping others, join us to create your Summer Side-Hustle! First Tee Literacy and Golf Camp- FULL
First Tee Literacy and Golf Camp: Interested in learning golf? Enjoy reading? If you answered yes then First Tee Camp is for you. Plain Local has partnered with The First Tee organization and GlenOak's Varsity Golf Team to combine literacy and golf skills into one camp. This camp is for students entering grades 3-6. First Tee combines literacy activities, golfing skills, and character building to create an engaging, interactive camp that focuses on the mind and body. Musical Theater Camp- FULL
Musical Theater Camp: Musical Theater Camp puts YOU on stage. Performers of all levels are welcome to explore singing, acting, and dancing. All you need is a little curiosity and a love of performing. Students in musical theater camp present a final performance showcasing the skills learned throughout the week. This program is led by Amy Sima-Dirham, GOHS Theater Arts Director as well as GOHS Theater students. ACADEMIC CREDIT ADVANCEMENT OFFERINGS
Online Health for High School Credit
Online Health for High School Credit: Oakwood Middle School students entering the 8th grade are able to get a jump start on their high school credit through this summer course. Course consists of online learning and face to face instruction with guest speakers. Students are expected to complete coursework on their own time in addition to the in-person mandatory meetings.

GlenOak Credit Recovery
GlenOak Credit Recovery: There are many reasons why students get behind in their high school journey. Plain Local Schools offers a way for high school students to get back on track toward graduation by recovering credits from failed classes. These courses are offered at GlenOak High School. Only students who have previously failed the course during the regular school year may enroll.
