Credentials Required for Substitute Teaching

1. Complete a Substitute Application

  • Applicant Tracking, https://starkcountyesc.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx online at Stark County ESC 
  • Required to be completed and updated annually.
  • Application gives us your current contact and background information.
  • You will choose your location preferences in this application.
  • Application states your intent to substitute teach for the current school year.

2.Official College Transcripts showing bachelor’s conferred date

  • Transcript is submitted with initial application.
  • Transcript is also uploaded to the Ohio Department of Education when applying for licensure.

3. Background Check

  • Book a fingerprinting appointment online through the Start County ESC https://fingerprint.youcanbook.me/
  • Appointments available at our office – cost is $53 for both BCI and FBI
  • You are required to provide valid BCI and FBI results.
  • As a NEW sub, valid results can be no older than one year (365 days).
  • As a RETURNING sub, you will be contacted if your BCI/FBI checks have expired.
  • Background checks must be sent electronically to the Ohio Department of Education at the time of fingerprinting for licensure purposes (3319.291)

4. Licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education

After the above four steps are completed and reviewed, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED BY EMAIL for additional information or for further instructions to login to a sub gmail account created for you and to electronically sign three documents.

Once the documents are signed and approved, your name will be activated on the Stark County Schools Council Substitute Consortium Sublist, and you will receive a confirmation email.
