Yard Sign Guidelines

The following guidelines apply to all yard signs and temporary displays on school property

Plain Local Schools welcomes signs on school property for school events, approved partners, and organizations that support our students and schools, when appropriate and timely. To keep school grounds safe, welcoming, and focused on district activities, all yard signs and temporary displays require approval before they are placed on school property. Please review the guidelines below and contact the building principal, department leader/coach, or athletic department with your request.

Who Can Post

  • Limited to school-affiliated groups and approved partners
  • All requests must be approved by the building principal, athletic department, or district office if appropriate in advance

Timing

  • Signs may be posted no earlier than 60 days prior to the event
  • All signs must be removed within 7 days after the event concludes

Placement

  • Signs must be placed in approved areas only and should not interfere with traffic flow, visibility, or daily operations
  • No signs on doors, windows, light poles, or permanent structures

Responsibility

  • The sponsoring organization is responsible for installation and timely removal
  • Any signs left beyond the removal window may be discarded by the district

Cost

  • Any costs associated with design, production, placement, and removal are the responsibility of the sponsoring organization

Content

  • Branding and messaging must align with district standards and be appropriate for a school setting
  • The district reserves the right to deny or remove any signage that does not meet these expectations at any time without notice

Signage Not Permitted

  • No Advertising for for-profit businesses, except limited sponsor recognition on signs for school events or PTO or parent organization fundraisers approved in advance by the building principal. Signs must primarily promote the event or fundraiser, not the business.
  • No Political campaign signs or messaging related to candidates, parties, or ballot issues (Exception: When a school is designated as an official polling location, signage may be permitted only on Election Day and must follow all applicable election laws, including required distance from the polling entrance.)
  • No Signs that create safety concerns, including blocking visibility, traffic flow, entrances, or exits
  • No Oversized or excessive signage that creates clutter or disrupts the school environment
  • No Permanent or semi-permanent installations (all signage must be temporary unless otherwise approved)
  • The district reserves the right to deny or remove any signage at its discretion without notice
