Q: Do students need to wear masks during the 2021-2022 school year?
A: New guidance from the Ohio Department of Health was given on October 25, 2021 regarding masks in schools. Plain Local Schools announced on October 26, 2021 that masks will be optional for staff and students, but highly encouraged. Please note that all guidance is subject to change. (Added 10/26/21)
Q: I still want my student to wear a mask to school, will they be outcasts if they do so?
A: No, the best way to fight COVID-19 is by physical distance, proper mask wearing and getting vaccinated. All students and staff have the right to wear a mask to school if they choose. (Added 10/26/21)
Q: Will my child continue to wear a mask on school transportation?
A: Yes, any student riding school transportation is required to wear a mask by federal law.
Q: I do not want my child to wear a mask for 14 days due to exposure inside the school setting, what should I do?
A: If you are unwilling to wear a mask after exposure, your child will need to stay home. (Added 10/26/21)
Q: Under what circumstances would a student or staff member need to quarantine?
A: Students and staff exposed to COVID-19 in the school setting will follow the Mask to Stay/Test to Play guidelines. Students and staff exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school setting will need to follow the ODH quarantine guidance found here. (Added 10/26/21)
Q: What should I do if I am exposed COVID-19 outside of the school setting?
A: You should follow isolation and quarantine guidelines from the Ohio Department of Health and not report to school. Read more from ODH here. (Added 8/26/21)
Q: Can I return to school if I receive a negative test on day 5, 6 or 7 of quarantine?
A: If you test negative, you may return to school on day 8, no earlier.
Q: Can I use a non-proctored or over the counter test to verify my child is COVID-19 negative?
A: No, you must use a proctored test, either by a healthcare provider or proctored at home. You must provide proof of a negative test from the proctor. There will be no exceptions to this rule.
Q: Why is another school district is following different guidance?
A: Plain Local Schools has followed guidance from the Ohio Department of Health from the start of the pandemic and will continue that practice. The district has no decision-making power over any other school district decision. (Added 8/26/21)
Q: Will these guidelines change in the future?
A: Everything is subject to change based on State and Local recommendations. The district cannot predict health conditions or revised requirements.
