The Bill J. Bowling Family Endowment Fund

Through grants that provide exceptional opportunities for all 6,000 students in the district, the Bill J. Bowling Family Endowment Fund supports the Plain Local School District with programming and facility improvements. This fund was set up by the Bowling family in memory of Bill, who passed away in 2013.

All three of Bill’s daughters (Elizabeth, Michelle and Laura) graduated from GlenOak High School and excelled in academics and athletics through their educational career. Bill valued the diversity and opportunities that public education offered his children, and now, grandchildren. Because of those opportunities and life lessons that his children experienced, it was the desire of his family to support the Plain Local School District in the spirit that captured everything Bill valued about Plain Local and public education.

Donations to the Bill J. Bowling Foundation will support programming and facility grants to Plain Local Staff based upon the values that all students receive the opportunity to be challenged, excel, take chances without the fear of failure, work hard and remain optimistic.

The Mary Tydin Miller Memorial Endowment Fund

The Mary Tydin Miller Memorial Endowment Fund was established by her parents to celebrate Tydin’s life.  Tydin had a mighty spirit, helped others, worked hard and never gave up.  Tydin was a 2005 graduate of GlenOak, where she embraced the many challenges she faced.  From beginning with her life as an orphan in Vietnam, to moving halfway around the world learning a new language and culture, Tydin embraced the many challenges she faced and did so with a positive attitude.  With the help of her family, friends, teachers and coaches, Ty became a persevering kid full of hope and happiness.  She always had a smile on her face and was genuinely kind to everyone she met.

At GlenOak High School, Ty played the trumpet in the band, sang in the choir and was a two-time state qualifier in cross country.

The endowment fund awards “Star Grants” annually to staff for programming that supports enriching, innovative and meaningful programming for all students of Plain Local.

Donations to the Mary Tydin Miller Memorial Endowment Fund will benefit the “Star Grants” awarded annually to staff at convocation each August.
