I hope this letter finds you safe and healthy as you welcome in the New Year. I am excited to begin another year and watch our students shine across the school district. The district is fortunate to have great kids and supportive families.
I am writing to address the current environment with COVID. As everyone is aware, cases throughout the state are at the highest levels ever during the pandemic. Our local hospitals are near capacity and the Ohio National Guard will be in Canton assisting our hospitals. Many people are sick and others cannot receive normal care during this time. This is a time that all of us must come together for each other.
I am highly recommending that students, staff, visitors and volunteers wear masks when we begin school Monday, January 3, 2022. Yesterday, the Stark County Health Department released a letter stating, “The Stark County Health Department still strongly recommends that masks be worn by students, staff, visitors and volunteers at all times while inside school facilities. Stark County continues to recommend to get your COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters at the appropriate time. Also, stay home if you are sick.” The current situation in Stark County is troubling, and I hope you will strongly consider my request. The district will continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust accordingly. My goal is to be transparent with our community and express the seriousness of the situation.
Finally, included in this communication is the updated isolation and quarantine guidelines from the CDC and The Ohio Department of Health. This guidance will begin on Monday, January 3 for the Plain Local School District.
Wishing you and your family and happy and healthy new year! Go Eagles!!
