Golden Eagles Support St. Baldricks!

The Canton St. Baldrick's Event will be at Quaker Steak & Lube on Sunday, March 16, 2014 beginning at noon. This year shavees will include Plain Local students from Middlebranch Elementary: Brody Humes, Atticus Black, Ethan Philpott and Luke Sarris; and from Taft Elementary: Eli Krach, Kaleb Pudder, Garret Tolbert and his parents Melissa and Josh Tolbert (both Plain Local staff).
There are many opportunities to donate and join in on the fun at the event, and 15% of all food and drink orders placed at Quaker Steak all day on Sunday will go towards St. Baldrick's. Go to the St. Baldrick's website to donate or call Nan Foltz at Taft Elementary for information at 330-491-3760.

2014-2015 Course Descriptions and Registration Information

Counselors meet with all current freshmen, sophomores and juniors to begin the process of registering for the 2014-2015 school year. Parents and students need to carefully review the course request sheet and select courses based on graduation requirements and college and career goals. Students wishing to take an Honors or Advanced Placement course must obtain teacher recommendations. All forms must be returned to a student's Academy Office no later than Friday, March 7th.

The Plain Local School District is pleased to announce the introduction of the GlenOak Academic Hall of Fame, celebrating the academic achievements of GlenOak High School’s top graduating students.
The inauguration of the Academic Hall of Fame will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 7:00pm and will feature the unveiling of the new Academic Hall of Fame and commemorative plaques. During the ceremony, Steven Redd will reflect on his time at GlenOak and his journey since graduating in 2008. A light reception will be held following.

The GlenOak High School Cosmetology Department will be hosting a Hair-A-Thon on February 27, 2014 from 11:30am - 7:00pm, for any hair service, manicure, pedicure or a facial. The salon is easily accessible to the public by entering GlenOak off of Schneider St. at door #5 located to the west of Mercy Medical’s entrance.
Appointments are recommended but walk-ins will be taken on a first-come first-served basis. Please call 330-491-3990 or stop by the GlenOak Cosmetology Department to make your appointment now. The Plain Local Alumni Association is working to create a professional speaker series and is inviting former Plain Local graduates "back to school" to inform and educate students about their careers and the journey that lead them to where they are today. If you are a former Plain Local graduate, or know of someone that would be willing to share their career experiences and answer questions about their profession with our middle and high school students, please encourage them to consider being part of the series.
Plain Earns National Recognition From AP Board

The Plain Local School District is one of only 477 school districts in the U.S. and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the 4th Annual AP® District Honor Roll for increasing access to AP® course work while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams. Reaching these goals indicates that the district is successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are likely to benefit from rigorous AP course work. Since 2011, Plain Local School District has increased the number of students participating in AP by 25% while improving the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher by 1%.
